Shutterfest 2016 - Day 1 - Studio Kids with Lori Nordstrom

The first session of Shutterfest 2016 was the Studio Kids class with Lori Nordstrom. I absolutely love Lori and her classes have always run so smoothly. I have had the pleasure of attending one or more classes with her every year of SF and am thrilled when I get to glean information from her. In this year's class we travelled between five stations and photographed a different child and set up at each station. These kids were so much fun and such a pleasure to work with, I loved every minute of it. Below are the images I loved best from our time together.

While this was an indoor set up, I hope to translate what I learned to my outdoor set ups as well. This especially makes sense as I am mainly an on location photographer. If you love working with kids and get the chance to attend Shutterfest, Lori's classes are the best.

The Vuckovich Five

This is without a doubt one of my fastest sessions! I came back from Shutterfest with ideas of grandeur, only to have the weather not cooperate. I came home to weather colder than it was when I left. I'm still thankful for my troopers who braved the cold long enough to get some more practice of off camera flash in. I'm very happy with how these came out.

The {S} Siblings

Weather was definitely chillier than I expected but I still had a lot of fun with these two kiddos! My friends are the best for letting me try out new ideas and techniques. Testing out off camera flash to help counteract/offset the sun.

I think I have a great start.

*Disclaimer - These railroad tracks are a part of the historical village in my city. They are a closed set of tracks and a part of the county park system. I would never put anyone in danger.

Katelynn turned 9 months old

This past winter, this little one turned nine months old!
She had some mixed emotions about her photo shoot!

Crawling was a definite skill she acquired and she made this studio set up a bit more difficult to manage but I definitely think we made it work!

We also took the opportunity to go out and play in the snow! Our winter was an oddity this time around, as we would get hit hard with weather but then a day or so later you wouldn't believe it had even happened.

Hendrickson-Edgar Wedding

Before Christmas, I was blessed to be able to photograph the wedding of one of my childhood friends.

Weather tried to stop us the night before but we drove through the ice storm for the rehearsal and almost wouldn't believe things were covered in ice less than 24 hours ago on the day of the wedding; although, the temperature sure let us know winter was definitely upon us. Despite a chilly start to the day, no one would believe it based on the warmth of the love displayed as two became one!

I believe the sand ceremony was my favorite part!
I love significance it showed in the blending of these two families into one!

It was a small intimate affair witnessed by family and very close friends.

I cannot express how blessed I truly felt to be there and witness this marriage, let alone be the one to photograph such a wonderful event.

Congratulations, Lydia and Gary! I am so happy for you and look forward to celebrating your anniversary each year whether it be with you physically or in spirit!
